For more than 100 years, Cedars-Sinai’s role as a Jewish hospital has been to provide compassionate care to people of all faiths and backgrounds. Our values motivate us to offer chaplains of various traditions and celebrations of many major holidays for our diverse community of patients, their loved ones, and our caregivers.
The Cedars-Sinai chapel, which is located on the Plaza Level, between the North and South towers, is open to everyone 24 hours a day. Some religious programs may also be viewed on Cedars-Sinai TV, Channel 50, including Jumu'ah (Friday afternoon weekly Islamic congregational service).
There are Muslim prayer rugs, and scarves, as well as Islamic literature (including copies of the Qur'an) available in the chapel. The Qibla (orientation towards Mecca) is marked by a picture. If a patient needs additional resources, like prayer beads or Tayammum (dry ablution) kit, or determining the Qibla in a patient room, please request a chaplain.
Friday, 1:15-1:45 p.m – Jumu'ah or Islamic Prayer Service
Nearby Places of Worship
Prayer services at the Cedars-Sinai chapel are held on Friday afternoons, but you can also worship at mosques and Islamic centers in the area. This is only a partial listing, and Cedars-Sinai does not endorse any specific place of worship.
Other Spiritual Care Services
Here are a few other ways that Cedars-Sinai supports members of the Islamic faith:
- Assistance contacting outside clergy
- Visits by Spiritual Care team volunteers
- Inspirational and religious programs on Channel 50
Advance Healthcare Directives
By completing an advance healthcare directive, you can clearly state your healthcare goals, values and preferences. An advance healthcare directive allows you to share with your care team and loved ones what is most important to you when thinking about your health—and gives you greater peace of mind.
Review these forms and resources. Talk with your doctor, your family and your rabbi or spiritual adviser, and work with them to complete your advance healthcare directive. That way, your care team and those most dear to you can honor your healthcare decisions.
Have Questions or Need Help?
Call the Muslim team Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Pacific Time (U.S.), or send a message. You can also visit our offices, which are on the Plaza Level, between the North and South towers, next to the chapel.
