About Endoscopic Endonasal (Transsphenoidal) Pituitary Surgery
The pituitary gland's location (above the inside of your nose) makes it challenging to access. In most cases, we use the endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal approach.
Our pituitary surgery experts access the surgical area using a camera and sophisticated instruments we insert through your nostrils:
- The camera provides a magnified view of the surgical area
- The instruments allow us to remove tissue with a high degree of precision
Benefits of the transsphenoidal approach include:
- Safety: Doctors can access pituitary tumors without disrupting nearby healthy tissue.
- Shorter recovery time: Most patients stay in the hospital for two days and resume normal activities within two weeks.
- No cosmetic concerns: There is no facial scarring or bruising.
