Endocrine Conditions We Treat

Cedars-Sinai is home to a team of doctors who specialize in treating common and complex endocrine disorders. Whether it's a rare form of adrenal disease or Type 2 diabetes, our experts deliver trusted care that restores wellness.

We provide exceptional care for a broad range of conditions.

Adrenal Disorders and Adrenal Tumors

  • Adrenal cortical adenoma, a benign tumor in the outer layer of the adrenal gland that may or may not produce adrenal hormones.
  • Adrenal cancer, a malignant cancer that starts in the adrenal gland like adrenal cortical carcinoma.
  • Adrenal hyperplasia, a group of conditions affecting the size and shape of your adrenal glands as well as their ability to produce hormones.
  • Adrenal insufficiency, when adrenal glands don't make enough of the hormone cortisol due to damage to the adrenal glands (Addison’s disease), to the pituitary gland (located just below the brain), or to the brain itself. Cortisol deficiency causes weight loss, fatigue, nausea, low blood pressure, body aches and mood changes. In Addison’s disease, the adrenal glands do not produce both cortisol and aldosterone. Aldosterone causes salt loss and low blood pressure.
  • Cushing's syndrome, when the adrenal glands produce high levels of cortisol over a long period. Common symptoms include weight gain, high blood pressure, muscle aches, skin changes, bone loss and mood changes.
  • Hereditary adrenal disorders, such as congenital adrenal hyperplasia, multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) or pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma that occur due to genetic abnormalities.
  • Metastases to the adrenal glands, from cancer that starts in other areas of the body (kidney, colon, lung, skin, blood) and settles in the adrenal glands.
  • Pheochromocytoma, a rare type of adrenal gland tumor that produces adrenaline.
  • Primary aldosteronism (hyperaldosteronism), when adrenal glands produce too much of the hormone aldosterone, leading to high blood pressure.
  • Steroid treatment side effects and steroid withdrawal

Bone Issues

  • Osteopenia, weakened bone tissue, an early sign of osteoporosis
  • Osteoporosis, which causes weak, thinning bones

Diabetes

  • Metabolic syndrome, having multiple conditions, such as diabetes and insulin resistance, that increase the risk of heart disease
  • Prediabetes, above-normal blood sugar levels that put you at risk for diabetes and other health conditions, such as heart disease
  • Type 1 diabetes, when your body is unable to produce the hormone insulin
  • Type 2 diabetes, when your body is not producing enough insulin or using it efficiently
  • Gestational diabetes, when a pregnant woman's body produces hormones that interfere with insulin regulation

Pituitary Disorders and Tumors

  • Pituitary disorders, when the pituitary gland releases levels of hormones that are higher or lower than normal
  • Pituitary tumors, a mass of cells that presses on the pituitary gland and may or may not be cancerous

Thyroid Disorders and Thyroid Cancer

  • Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease that occurs when white blood cells attack your thyroid
  • Hyperthyroidism, an overactive thyroid gland that makes too much thyroid hormone
  • Hypothyroidism, when the thyroid gland is not active enough
  • Parathyroid disease, a group of conditions that includes hyperparathyroidism, which causes abnormally low levels of calcium in the bones
  • Thyroid nodules, abnormal lumps in or on your thyroid gland that may become cancerous
  • Thyroid cancer, clusters of cancerous cells (tumors) that form in your thyroid
  • Thyroid disease in pregnancy, which often includes Graves' disease, a form of hyperthyroidism
