Condition: Heart transplant

Key Inclusion Criteria:

  • Patients who are on the heart transplant waiting list at Cedars-Sinai who are intended to undergo redo (cases) or first (controls) heart transplant

Key Exclusion Criteria:

  • Because a peripheral blood sample is required for the study, patients with severe anemia will be excluded

Study Name

Infiltrating B Cells in Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy (IRB no. 00001427)

The purpose of this study is to learn more about biological mechanisms that lead to complications after heart transplant. The study will explore how the immune system functions after heart transplant and what the new heart looks like after interacting with the immune system. Specifically, researchers are interested in the process called “cardiac allograft vasculopathy,” in which the vessels of the transplanted heart are injured by the immune system after transplant.

The study will use samples of the removed heart from transplant surgery, samples from the lymph node removed during transplant surgery, and a blood sample from around the same time. In addition, researchers will review medical records and collect information about the participants for two years.
