Contraindications
Patients with pacemakers, defibrillators or other implanted electronic devices cannot be scanned using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Compatability
Magnetic resonance imaging is safe for patients who have joint replacements, coronary stents, ASD/PFO closure devices, sternal wires or most prosthetic heart valves. Our sub-specialized imaging physicians will determine on an individual basis if patients with the following can have an MRI:
- A history of metallic implants
- Shrapnel
- Neurosurgical clip placement
