Sarcoidosis
When you have pulmonary sarcoidosis, receiving timely care can lower your risk of permanent lung damage. At Cedars-Sinai, our lung disease specialists (pulmonologists) use their years of experience to provide an accurate diagnosis. We treat sarcoidosis in its early stages when treatment can have the most impact.
What Is Pulmonary Sarcoidosis?
Sarcoidosis is a rare disease that happens when inflammation causes clumps of cells (granulomas) to form in your lungs. Granulomas often heal on their own. If they don’t, lung tissue may become scarred and stiff. Scarred lung tissue can make your sarcoidosis symptoms, such as shortness of breath, worse. You may also face a higher risk of other complex lung problems, including pulmonary fibrosis and bronchiectasis.
Seeking treatment can control your symptoms and keep your lungs healthy long term.
Our Approach to Pulmonary Sarcoidosis Treatments and Care
Pulmonary sarcoidosis affects each person differently. Most people don’t need treatment and can live with the disease without long-term consequences. Others may require medication to manage symptoms.
Researchers and doctors at Cedars-Sinai have pioneered medical advances in testing and treatments for lung diseases, leading to better patient outcomes. Learn more about our current pulmonary research.
