Indications for Referrals

Patients are referred to Nutrition Counseling Services by their primary care physician, often for follow-up medical nutrition therapy after being discharged from the Medical Center. Nutrition Counseling Services' patients range from newborns and children to adolescents and adults, including pregnant women and seniors. The Service treats patients with a wide variety of diseases and disorders, such as:

  • Digestive diseases
  • Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties)
  • Eating disorders
  • Gestational diabetes
  • HIV/AIDS

A Team of Specialists

Nutrition Counseling Services' team of specialists are comprised of experienced outpatient registered dietitians. The registered dietitians work with the referring physicians to determine the best nutritional program for each patient and keeps the referring physician apprised of the patient's condition. As part of Cedars-Sinai, the service also provides access to inpatient registered dietitians for any complex or specialized assessments or counseling.
