Visitor Policy Updates

The health and safety of our patients, families and staff are our top priority. We continue to evaluate our visitor policy to allow more people to safely visit their loved one while receiving care.
All visitors must pass a health screening and temperature check upon arrival. Per CDC guidance, visitors to healthcare facilities, including all Cedars-Sinai facilities, are still required to wear masks at all times, maintain physical distancing, practice hand hygiene and stay in the patient’s room while visiting.
Per CDC guidance, all visitors are required to remain masked at all times in healthcare settings, including when on Cedars-Sinai property, even when in a patient's room. Visitors must properly wear a hospital-issued surgical mask, or their own provided it is well-fitted, not cloth, does not have external vents, and is not damaged or visibly soiled. In an effort to enforce this critical pandemic precaution, visitors are not allowed to eat or drink indoors at any time, including in lobbies, public areas or inpatient rooms, except for fully vaccinated visitors in a designated space at the Ray Charles Cafeteria. Visitors who are not fully vaccinated but have a negative COVID-19 test can purchase food at the Ray Charles Cafeteria but cannot eat in the cafeteria. Additionally, exceptions will be made in the following inpatient areas: Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, NICU and Pediatrics.

Effective immediately and until further notice, we are restricting outside food delivery to our patients.
If you have a family member or loved one currently receiving inpatient care at a Cedars-Sinai Medical Center facility, we encourage you to use electronic communications, such as FaceTime and Skype, as often as possible. Our staff members are always available to help coordinate these virtual visits.
Do not visit a patient if you have:
- A fever above 100 degrees, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, runny nose or sneezing, chills, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, body aches, sore throat, diarrhea or new loss of taste or smell
- Been exposed to COVID-19
Inpatient Areas
We require approved visitors to inpatient units to show proof of one of the following:
- Full vaccination against COVID-19, including proof of a booster shot if the visitor is booster eligible
- Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test within 48 hours of a visit
- Proof of a negative COVID-19 antigen test within 24 hours of a visit
We will not accept home tests. As proof, each visitor must present one of the following:
- A COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card issued by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control & Prevention) or a WHO Yellow Card. The card must include name of person vaccinated, type of vaccine (and booster, if eligible) provided, and date the last dose was administered; or
- A photograph of a Vaccination Record Card. The photo can be on a smartphone or other device, or it can be a physical photograph, or
- Documentation of COVID-19 vaccination from a health care provider; or
- A digital record that includes a QR code that when scanned by a SMART Health Card reader displays to the reader client name, date of birth, vaccine dates and vaccine type; or
- Proof of a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test (we will not accept home tests)
Visitors are considered fully vaccinated if they received their second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine at least two weeks prior to their visit, in addition to a booster shot if the visitor is booster eligible. Booster-eligible is defined as 5 months after completion of a Pfizer or Moderna primary vaccine series, or 2 months after a Janssen vaccine.
Visitors who are not vaccinated should obtain a test before they visit Cedars-Sinai (at a pharmacy or other location) and arrive with their negative test results.
Non-COVID-19 inpatient visitation is as follows:
- Intensive Care Units: Two visitors at a time, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. One overnight visitor allowed at the discretion of nursing leadership.
- Medical and Surgical Units: Two visitors at a time, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. One overnight visitor allowed at the discretion of nursing leadership.
- Labor and Delivery: Up to two unique visitors per day, inclusive of a doula, 24 hours/day. Visitors must be 12 or older.
- Postpartum & Maternal-Fetal Care Unit: Up to two unique visitors per day, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. One overnight visitor allowed at the discretion of nursing leadership.
- Pediatrics & NICU: One pair of parents/guardians, 24 hours/day.
- End-of-life Patients Who Are Not COVID-19 Positive or Suspected: Up to two unique visitors per day, 24 hours/day.
Visitors are not allowed for patients with moderate or high suspicion of having COVID-19, unless a clinical team has determined the patient is considered end-of-life. In that case, the patient will be allowed one visitor per day for two hours.
Additional Considerations:
- Pediatric Surgery: Two visitors allowed for all inpatient and outpatient pediatric surgery patients under 18, before, during and after surgery. Please note: if a pediatric patient is admitted to the hospital following surgery, visitor guidelines will then default to the above inpatient visitor policy.
- Patients may designate the same or a different visitor(s) each day.
- Exceptions to the visitor policy and visitor time limits may be made for patients with compassionate care needs or developmental or cognitive impairments. For questions about exceptions, ask for the charge nurse.
Outpatient Areas
- Emergency Room: One visitor 24 hours/day
- Infusion Areas: Visitor accommodations are based on ability to maintain appropriate physical distancing. Please check with the clinic prior to your appointment.
- Same-day Surgery: One unique, healthy companion before, during, and after surgery.
- Imaging: One visitor is allowed for patients under the age of 18 or for patients who need physical assistance.
- Doctor Appointments and Urgent Care Centers: One visitor is allowed for the following:
- Patients under the age of 18
- Patients with physical, developmental or cognitive impairments, memory loss or confusion
- Only at the discretion of the provider, patients with a visit involving any new diagnosis or complex medical condition requiring discussion, or a visit involving a procedure when able to be accommodated
Visitors are not allowed for patients with or suspected of having COVID-19 at any of our outpatient locations.
