Emergency, Inpatient & Outpatient

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center participates in the national Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) hospital survey to measure patient experiences.

Developed by a consumer and healthcare research firm called NRC Picker, and adopted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), these surveys provide the public with comparable information on the patient experience at inpatient hospitals.

With its behavior-based questions, the NRC Picker survey represents a significant contribution to the HCAHPS program. These types of questions differ from, more common "agree-disagree" or "poor to excellent" rating scales, and help the HCAHPS program better meet their goal of providing objective, credible and meaningful comparisons to the public.

NRC Picker submits Cedars-Sinai HCAHPS scores to the CMS Hospital Value-Based Purchasing Program, a program that rewards hospitals based on how closely they follow best clinical practices and how well they enhance patients' experiences.

The graphs below compare Cedars-Sinai scores to the NRC Picker average for two general measures of patient experience, for emergency, inpatient and outpatient situations. The information is updated quarterly, with the most current data that is available at that time.
