Other Healthcare Programs
For anyone who is interested in—or are pursuing degrees in—specific healthcare fields, there are a variety of volunteer opportunities that give you real-world exposure to your chosen career and, in some cases, credit hours toward your degree.
General Requirements
Healthcare student volunteers must be at least 18 years old, fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and will need to do the following:
- Submit application
- Upload proof of COVID-19 vaccine
- Be available for a virtual interview
- Attend general volunteer orientation
- Complete initial background check
- Receive initial and annual health evaluations
- Purchase volunteer smock/jacket ($30)

Healthcare Volunteer Programs
To inquire about availability for each program, please submit your résumé and statement of interest to the program supervisor listed.
Once you have been accepted by your program supervisor, you will be contacted by Volunteer Services to complete the application process.
Successful applicants must complete online orientation, background check, health evaluation and have flu and COVID-19 inoculations. Volunteer Services programs are subject to change based on the status of the current COVID-19 pandemic, to protect the health and safety of our volunteers, patients and staff.
The process can take up to 30 days from the time the application is submitted until all requirements are met and you are issued a Cedars-Sinai volunteer badge.
The Transforming Care at Bedside (TCAB) Volunteer Program can provide valuable, real-world experience. Volunteers learn what nurses and other healthcare professionals do in their daily work, and experience how it feels to interact with patients and families at the bedside.
Requirements:
- A minimum of one 4-hour shift per week, between 5 a.m.–9 p.m., Monday–Sunday
- Minimum total of 100 hours
- Get annual flu vaccine
- Wear white or black scrubs when on duty
- Attend TCAB orientations

Please note, however, that there are specific onboarding times during the year. More information is provided during the virtual interview.
Volunteers provide clerical assistance as well as support services to the Community Outreach Assistance for Children's Health (COACH) mobile medical units. Activities may include reading to children and participating in health education activities at community sites.
Requirements: Volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from community sites.

Volunteers will shadow genetic counselors in clinic, either remotely or in-person, and assist with clerical duties such as updating patient family history, scanning and obtaining records, making patient reminder calls and other assigned projects.
Requirements:
- Applicants must be interested in a career in genetic counseling and planning to apply to genetic counseling programs in the near future.
- Able to volunteer during standard business hours (M-F, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.)
- Able to dedicate a minimum of 50 hours over a 2-3 month period with a minimum of one 4-hour shift per week.

Volunteers assist with reference projects, data curating, circulation work, archival projects, collection development and other assigned projects. The program provides 120 hours of credit needed for graduation.
Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a Master of Library Science program.

This volunteer opportunity is for anyone who require observation hours to apply for a graduate program in physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. The program provides volunteers with a maximum of 20 hours.
Requirements: Applicants must be interested in pursuing a degree related to the fields listed above.

This volunteer opportunity is for mental-health interns who wish to work with teens. Volunteer work includes talking with teens on a telephone helpline and serving in the field with teen outreach.
Requirements: Applicants must be mental-health interns seeking licensing hours.
